Biography

For Yasaswi Kondepudi, one of the most memorable turning points in his life came when he was selected as a contestant in Zee Telugu’s “SA RE GA MA PA” in 2020 during the pandemic. His first performance on the show, when he sang, ‘Life of Ram’, a song from the Telugu movie Jaanu, earned him a lot of fandom and admiration from people, and he hasn’t looked back ever since. But success doesn’t come to you overnight. It takes years of persistence and patience to achieve big things in life. For Yasaswi, this journey began when he was barely three years old.

Born on January 13, 1996, in Kakinada, East Godavari district, Yasaswi Kondepudi hails from a family of musicians and singers.

His parents, Mr. Kondepudi Sekhar and Mrs. Kondepudi Sreedevi, were singers in SARIGAMA, a popular orchestra in Kakinada which Yasaswi’s father started in 1996, and they sang in thousands of stage shows over the years. When Yasaswi was three years old, he began accompanying his parents to these stage shows, and subconsciously, he fell in love with music, singing, and the adulation that the audience showered on the orchestra. Before he knew it, he knew that he wanted to be a singer one day.

Their orchestra would perform for more than twenty days in a month, and night after night, Yasaswi found himself soaking in all the rhythms and melodies emanating from the stage.

As a kid, one of his favourite pastimes was observing the keyboard player in the orchestra, and the whole process mesmerised Yasaswi. He used to memorize everything that he had seen to an extent that he knew how to play the instrument. The orchestra got a first taste of his immense talent when he played the song, Naaraju Gakura Maa Annayya, from Pawan Kalyan’s Johnny, on the keyboard without anyone teaching him.

By the age of 10, he became so well-versed with the keyboard that he became part of the orchestra and used to play the instrument for three hours at a stretch. Under his parents’ guidance, he was trained in singing from Pranalingam garu for six months. The high point of his budding career as a singer and a musician came when he played three songs for the legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam garu during a concert. Yasaswi was just 12 years old when this incident happened, and SP Balu garu was so impressed with his talent that he praised him whole-heartedly and showered his blessings on Yasaswi.

Currently, Yasaswi is pursuing his MBBS degree in Andhra Medical College, Vishakapatnam. But he never gave up on his passion for music and singing. Soon after joining this medical college, Yasaswi formed a band which he named YK CONCERT. His sister Kondepudi Sankeerthana, who is a singer and also an MBBS student at Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, and a few other students are part of this band which regularly performs in and around Vizag.

His dedication towards music and his relentless efforts to achieve bigger things in life earned him a spot in Zee Telugu’s SA RE GA MA PA talent show, and his first performance, when he sang Life Of Ram, made him a household name. He credits his success to his parents and SP Balu’s garu blessings, and time and again, Yasaswi has stated that they are the guiding light in his life.

Yasaswi has already made his foray as a playback singer with the song, Gaganamu Daati Egaraali Choodu, composed by RR Dhruvan, from the movie Miles of Love. Amidst all this, he has been flooded with offers to sing in many stage shows, both locally and abroad, and several music directors have evinced interest to work with him. Yasaswi’s musical journey has been long, but he’s only getting started to showcase his true potential to the world.
